Nairobians commemorate Easter

Hundreds of Christians in Nairobi gathered in different churches to celebrate Good Friday.

In Holy Family Basilica, Catholics started with the Way of the Cross at 9am where they carried the cross around the city along Mbagathi way and Valley road.

The procession was flagged off by Cardinal John Njue after which a mass to celebrate the crucifixion and Death of Jesus Christ will be held at 3 pm.

At the All Saints Cathedral, Provost Sammy Wainaina led Christians in morning services to mark this day in the Christian calendar.

“They key message this Easter is forgiveness where all Christians should extend their love to people who have wronged them,” he said.

Provost Wainaina urged Christians to be responsible of their individual security and road safety during the Easter weekend.

At the cathedral, flowers and linen were not used to decorate the church as is the norm since the faithful were mourning the death of Jesus Christ.

Security was provided to the different churches with some even adding personnel to ensure the worshippers were secured during the services.

“We want to ensure those intending to come for the different services lined up for Easter that we have beefed up security,” said Wainaina.

Good Friday is celebrated every year by Christians around the world to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
