Nairobi woman squashed by two Githurai matatus

A middle-aged woman was on Monday squashed by two matatus that ply the Githurai route while crossing Ronald Ngala Street.

The woman was said to have been crossing the road when one of the matatu’s on the Githurai stage reversed and hit her against the other matatu.

The woman laid at the scene for a while as the crew of the two buses fled and eyewitnesses failed to provide help.

According to a woman who arrived at the scene minutes later, the victim was motionless but her eyes kept moving as people tried to communicate with her.

The matatu crews were categorical that they would not accord her any help. They told by-standers that the matatu termini is legal and there is nothing they could do about it.

After the police arrived at the scene, the woman was taken to a city hospital for treatment but her condition remains unknown.

Central OCPD Paul Wanjama confirmed the incident but stated that the condition of the woman was still unknown.

“I will give you more information after I speak to the officers who are still outside the station manning the roads,” he said.

This is the second case to be documented after a young lady died late last year after two Mwiki matatu’s crushed her outside Tuskys Beba Beba. The lady was crossing the road when one matatu reversed and crushed her against the other one.
