‘Drunk’ Nairobi tycoon arrested after killing guard with his SUV – PHOTOS

Police have arrested a former CMC motors director who allegedly knocked down two security guards, killing one on the spot early Tuesday morning.

Joel Kibe is alleged to have knocked the guards at a roadblock in Runda at 3.20 am while driving back to his house.

Nairobi Traffic Commandant, Edward Mwamburi said the Range Rover, believed to belong to CMC Motors, is being detained at the Parklands Police Station.

DEAD ON ARRIVAL

“Two of the guards were injured and unfortunately one of them was confirmed dead on arrival at hospital,” Mr Mwamburi said.

He said police are investigating the circumstances under which the incident occurred, but failed to confirm if the driver was drunk.

The incident sparked outrage online, with Kenyans demanding that the driver be charged and jailed for careless driving.

‘GARI IMEUMIA’

A video circulating on social media, allegedly showing the tycoon complaining that his car had been damaged and saying nothing of the dead man, even caused more outrage.

In the video, the man is captured saying: “Gari yangu imeumia, tumeumia sote!”

People who have watched the video, whose authenticity Nairobi News has not independently established, were outraged that the man only cared that the car was damaged, yet he was just metres away from a dead man and two others who were injured.

Mr Mwamburi said police will investigate all available materials before arraigning the suspect in court on Wednesday.
