Nairobi Standard Chartered marathon postponed

This month’s Nairobi Standard Chartered marathon has been postponed due to the presidential election which will be held on October 26.

The marathon which was due on October 29, will now be held on November 26.

The Nairobi Marathon, a road race which has often been a platform for young Kenyan athletes to launch their international careers, is the only regional road race recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

“This revised date is to give runners ample time to participate in both the election and the marathon,” said race organisers.

PRIZE MONEY

Organisers of the 15th edition had announced an increased prize money for the 21km race where winners of both men and women will receive Sh200,000 up from Sh150,000. First runners-up will pocket Sh150,000 while third placed will take home Sh100,000.

The prizes for the 42km remain unchanged with winner pocketing Sh1.5million.

Last year’s race attracted 23,000 participants and the organizers are expecting more 30,000 participants this year.

Runners will take part in the full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), 10km, 5km and 21km professional wheelchair races, whose routes remain the same as last year.
