Nairobi records 27 killings in one of bloodiest weekend

At least 27 people have been killed in Nairobi in the past four days.

Police records attribute most of the deaths to domestic violence and violent robbery.

On Sunday morning, a man was stabbed 22 times by his girlfriend in Buruburu Phase Three following a quarrel over a short text message. He died on the spot. The woman sustained stab wounds to her stomach, thigh and hand.

Their landlord, Ndwiga Gatimu, said he heard the man crying for help and went to find out what the problem was.

He said he saw the woman walking inside the house. She refused to open the door, prompting him to call the police. The officers found Mr Farid Halim, 24, in bed, dead.

MURDER IN UMOJA

On Saturday night, three men raided Sunset Lodge in Umoja and forced the guard to take them to a room.

They found Mr James Ndae Chege, 28, and his girlfriend Mary Wanjiru. Mr Chege died on the spot when he was shot in the head. The gang took money and other valuables before escaping on a motorcycle.

Police found three spent cartridges in the room.

Police spokesperson Charles Owino on Tuesday said the killings were being investigated.

“Some suspects have already been taken to court,” he said.

In Eastleigh, Mr Moses Maina Wahome was accosted by three men who stabbed him in the back on Saturday morning. He died in hospital.

Police have also found four bodies in different parts of the city.

On Sunday, the body of Francis Ndichu was found at Kiambiu Slum. It had deep cuts on the head.

HIT AND RUN

On the same day, the body of a man was found near Kahawa Barracks. It had many injuries. Police suspect he was killed by a hit-and-run car.

A domestic quarrel in Baba Dogo turned tragic when the woman was stabbed to death.

Police said Mr Edward Kipsang picked a quarrel with his wife when he found her in the company of two men.

One of the men drew a knife and attempted to stab Mr Kipsang but missed. He stabbed the woman, who later died. The suspect escaped.

Police have also arrested three men believed to have killed a security guard at the standard gauge railway stores on Monday morning.

Police said the three had stolen 15 rolls of wire mesh. Officers blocked their lorry as it was leaving the scene and arrested the three men.

The body of the guard, identified as Francis Mwanzia Ndolo, was found nearby.

Police said it appeared he had been hit with a blunt object on the forehead.
