Nairobi police used rape bed sheet as office window curtain

The mother of a child who was defiled more than four years ago on Wednesday told a court that part of the evidence was now police property.

The woman told Makadara Senior Resident Magistrate Evelyn Nyongesa that she went to Soweto Police Station and found a bed sheet, that is an exhibit in the case, being used as a curtain.

“That could be the reason why investigating officers are unable to bring the exhibit to court,” she complained.

She made the interjection during the hearing of a case in which Mr Simon Ngugi Thuo is charged with defiling a 10-year-old girl in 2010.

EXHIBITS

The prosecution had demanded to know why the investigating officer had not brought exhibits.

The officer said he was given the file by his boss and they did not include bringing exhibits.

“Your honour, I was given the case after the officer who has been investigating it, Madam Nthenya, was said to have bad blood with the complainant,” he said.

The magistrate has summoned the Soweto Police Station boss and Officer Nthenya to appear in court on Friday.
