Nairobi police bust Githurai rape gang

Police are holding five men suspected to be members of a gang behind a series of rape incidences in Githurai 44, Nairobi.

The men were arrested during an operation by police and residents in the Ngomongo forest along the Northern Bypass.

During the search, the police and residents came across a cave at the forest that had a number of clothing indicating that a number of people lived there.

The suspects were arrested after five hours of search.

FEMALE UNDERPANTS

“We also recovered tens of female underpants and several pornographic materials in the cave and we suspect that several people have been involved in a rape syndicate” a resident involved in the operation, Robert Mwangi said.

He said the cave also had had sharp objects like knives, purportedly used to intimidate the suspect’s victims to give in.

“We decided to be involved in the search for the criminals because several females from our area and others, have on several occasions been raped in the area” Mr Mwangi said.

DARK CAVE

The assorted pornographic materials were arranged in an album and were placed under what seemed to be a sleeping area inside the dark cave.

The five suspects are being held at the Kiamumbi police station as detectives continue with their investigations. The suspects are aged between 22 and 36 years.
