Legislators from Nairobi seem not to have appeased most of their constituents according to the latest opinion poll which ranks them as the worst performers countrywide.

Embakasi West MP John Ogutu Omondi is literally tailing in the performance ranking with an approval rating of 41.5 per cent with the best performing MP countrywide (Emuhaya’s Wilbur Ottichillo) having a rating of 79.9 per cent.

Other Nairobi MPs who are in the bottom of the ranking include Kasarani’s John Njoroge, whose constituents recently staged demonstrations accusing him of stalling the repairs of the Mwiki-Kasarani road.

He has been ranked at 45.6 per cent in the performance index.

Ruaraka’s Tom Kajwang, who is very vocal on opposition matters, is ranked poorly too at an index of 45.8 per cent while Langata’s Joash Olum is ranked at 46.0 per cent.

Embakasi Central’s John Ndirangu is also among the worst performing legislators with a index of 46.7 per cent while Roysambu’s Waihenya Ndirangu ranks at 47.7 per cent.

WORST PERFORMERS

Starehe’s Maina Kamanda is also on the worst performers list with an index of 50.5 per cent while Embakasi South’s Irshad Sumra displays a performance of 50.9 per cent.

The eight legislators are in the bottom 50 in the list that was released by Infotrak Research and Consulting on Monday.

Ms Angela Ambitho, the CEO of Infotrak, said 29,000 respondents were interviewed countrywide with at least 100 from each sub-county in the survey conducted between last December and February.

She said respondents were only asked about their general rating, but not on specific questions about their MPs’ performance.

Residents were asked a general question: “How would you rate the performance of your MP on a scale of 1-10, where 1 is extremely poor and 10 is excellent?”

Kamukunji’s Yusuf Hassan was above the country’s average index of 59.0 per cent ranking among the high performers in the country.
