Nairobi MCAs to debate naming of city streets

Nairobi County Assembly resumes Tuesday to discuss a motion seeking to review names of some streets in the city.

According to Karen ward representative David Mberia, some roads were given names that have no significance or history of the country.

In the order paper, Mr Mberia has described the naming of roads like Mogadishu, Monrovia, Lagos Road and Kampala Road as unplanned.

He says Kenya has a tradition of naming roads, towns and even villages after their heroes.

The MCA said the tradition is at risk following the unplanned naming of some of the roads in the City.

The Assembly will also discuss a report on the status of City Stadium. This follows a report by a Social and Welfare Labour committee, which was tasked with investigating the deteriorating condition of the stadium.

TRANSFORM DUMPSITE

Meanwhile, plans to convert Dandora dumpsite into a fully-fledged processing area with final disposal at Ruai are at an advanced stage.

Speaking from Fukuoka, Japan where he is on a weeklong working tour of various facilities as well as sign agreements with the Japanese government, Nairobi County Governor Dr Evans Kidero said “the technology we intend to use will not create danger to in and out bound aeroplanes and bird strikes will be completely minimized. This technology will also put in place measures to curb toxic gas emission.”

The Governor added that the Sh13 billion plant will create massive employment for youth in Dandora and Ruai areas.
