NAIROBI CRIME: Policeman killed in Lucky Summer shootout


A police officer and a suspected robber were killed in a shootout on Tuesday night in Lucky Summer.

Police headquarters said the deceased officer and his two other colleagues were on ambush duties within the estate when the shooting occurred.

NIGHT DUTIES

The deceased, Constable Manases Mwendia, and his colleagues Constable Robert Kerina and Constable Salad Aden were on night duties at around 11.10pm when they stopped three suspicious men.

One of the suspects immediately opened fire and shot Constable Mwendia on the forehead, killing him on the spot.

One of the officers shot one of the suspects and recovered a Tokalev pistol, serial number EP12828 with an empty magazine.

Starehe OCPD Alice Kimeli said that investigations had been launched and that the two suspects who escaped from the scene were being sought.
