How Nairobi county is seeking to slap heavy taxes on betting and taxi companies

Nairobi County is contemplating to introduce new taxes that will see betting firms, corporates and taxi companies get slapped with heavy fines.

On the winning side in the new Finance Bill that was approved by the Nairobi County Assembly are property owners, schools and private motorists.

In the new bill parking fees has been dropped from Sh300 to Sh200. Construction cost was also reduced.

GARBAGE COLLECTION

Others beneficiaries of the bill are schools, which will no longer pay garbage collection fee of up to Sh65,000.

Households will also not pay the Sh 500.

Food handler’s certificate fee for hotel owners has been reduced from Sh7,000 to Sh1,000.

TAXI FIRMS

However taxi firms will be paying a license fee of Sh50,000 for cars that have up to 50 cars.

Those with 51-100 cars will be required to pay Sh100,000 and Sh300,000 for those with over 100 cars.

It will be interesting to see how Nairobians will react to the new tax levies.
