Nairobi County issues warning to students, teachers over torching of schools


Stern action will taken against students and teachers found responsible for wave of arson in public boarding secondary school.

Nairobi County Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke, while speaking on Sunday morning in Pumwani during a Ficha Uchi campaign event, said condemned the recent cases of arson in secondary schools saying the incidents run goes efforts of having well-educated workforce in the future.

“Education is important for the future of Kenya as the children today will be our leaders and workers tomorrow. We should therefore be building more schools and not destroying existing ones,” Mr Mueke said.

FICHA UCHI CAMPAIGN

During the event, Mr Mueke donated more than 300 school uniforms to pupils from New Pumwani, Pumwani Child Survival Education & Rehabilitation Centre and Race Course Primary Schools.

Through the Ficha Uchi campaign, the county had donated 2,450 new school uniforms to 24 primary schools in Nairobi.

“Ficha Uchi is a campaign that aims at restoring dignity of school children who wear torn uniforms because they cannot afford new uniforms,” he said Mr Mueke who is the patron of Ficha Uchi.

The deputy governor also noted that the county government is committed to improving education in the slum areas through the provision of the much needed resources.
