Nairobi ranked seventh in 2013 KCPE results

Nairobi county posted dismal results in the KCPE results announced on Tuesday, emerging seventh best out of 47 counties nationally.

Nairobi county was ranked seventh nationally with an average of 265 marks. It held the position jointly with Baringo and Kisumu.

Kirinyaga  was the top performing county nationally followed by Elgeyo Marakwet, Makueni, Nandi and  Uasin Gishu respectively.

Westlands district emerged the top performing district in Nairobi county.

At 46, 232 pupils, Nairobi had the highest number of candidates in the 2013 KCPE. Of this, there were more girls than boys by a ratio of close to two per cent. 18 other counties shared this statistic with Nairobi.

Education Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi asked the County director of education Geoffrey Cherongis to ensure the boy child does not become marginalised as efforts to achieve gender parity are up scaled.

“We have to be balanced so that none of the genders lags behind, they have to look into this as well,” he said

Kimutai Brian  from Nandi county and  Otieno Akoth from Kisumu county were the top performers nationally with 444 marks each,  followed by Junita Riziki from Meru with 442 marks.

Nairobi’s top performer, Jonathan Kokei from Ruaraka academy, scored 442 marks in the exams and was ranked third nationally jointly with four others.

Nairobi excelled in producing top private schools, with Makini  Ngong road academy ranked the best. Newlight Academy Komarock also featured in the top 10 private schools.

There was no single public School from Nairobi County in the top five public schools list read out by the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi.
