Mystery as 13-year-old girl’s body found in dam

A family in Nairobi’s Githurai 45 estate is still coming to terms with the loss of their teenage daughter after her body was found at a dam near Clay Works.

The girl, who went missing on Friday last week, was last seen with a cobbler at a shop in the estate.

The cobbler, whose daughter was a close friend to the deceased, has since been arrested by officers from Kasarani police station who are investigating the incident.

The Standard Seven pupil was in the company of the cobbler’s daughter at a shop when the cobbler allegedly sent his daughter to the house and was left with the deceased.

Shop attendants were not keen to see whether the girl later left in the company of the man or went home alone as they suspected nothing fishy.

RAISED ALARM

“When she did not return home we raised an alarm and started a search for the missing girl which later ended at the dam,” recalled her mother.

The body was found on Saturday afternoon after hours of searching by police in the company of relatives.

“She had been raped and strangled to death judging from the bruises she had around her private parts and a piece of cloth around her neck,” the girl’s father told Nairobi News.

By the time her body was recovered, police had arrested the cobbler as the first suspect as he was the last person to be seen with the girl.

The body was taken to Kenyatta University mortuary as the family goes on with the burial preparations scheduled for Saturday.
