Mutua’s chopper stunt stirs up online debate

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has stirred mixed reaction on social media after photos of his arrival at a sports function on a chopper at the weekend were shared online.

Mutua caused a buzz when he landed at the 8,000 seater Machakos Stadium on a sleek blue helicopter for this year’s edition of the annual Masaku Sevens rugby tournament.

The Governor’s media team later uploaded some of these pictures on his Facebook page, prompting varied responses from online users.

“Wewe unapenda picha kama dem aje. (You really like taking photos). PR reloaded.” Mike Ochieng’ wrote.

“Sasa governor mutua ndiye safari sevens (sic)?? Wapi picha za game? (Seems the governor is the news here, where are some of the pictures from the matches?) nb flamboyance shows by itself, it’s never superimposed. Otherwise it will be a case of ‘too much of everything’!” read a post by Muthomi Rukunga.

“(You are) Africa’s best performing Governor. We love you and everything you are doing for Machakos County,” Edgar Franklin opined.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Mutua used his own money, or dipped into the public coffers to foot for the cost of the helicopter ride which is becoming a popular means of transport for Kenyan politicians.
