Muthama, Bosire ‘under house arrest’ over hate speech

Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire have been ‘under house arrest’ since 11pm Monday for alleged hate speech.

Police are reported to have surrounded Senator Muthama house.

The two are among six legislators who were ordered on Monday by Inspector-General Joseph Boinnet to appear for questioning at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters over alleged hate speech and incitement.

The Opposition claims two other MPs from its ranks fear being arrested on Tuesday over alleged hate speech.

“Until now, none of the leaders under arrest or those being sought have been served with summons to appear before police,” a statement by Raila Odinga’s spokesman Dennis Onyango stated.

Cord leaders are scheduled to meet at Capitol Hill Square on Tuesday at 9am, from where they will address the press then proceed to the homes of the two leaders currently.

“Cord lawyers and MPs will also escort those being sought to record statements with the police,” Mr Onyango’s statement said.

Detectives from the Special Crime Prevention Unit led by the head Mr Noah Katumo camped at the gate of Senator Muthama’s Runda residence for 11 hours.

Mr Muthama was later joined by ODM director of Communication Philip Etale and Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar.
