Musician Lam Tungwar appointed minister in South Sudan

South Sudanese musician Lam Tungwar, a former child soldier, has been appointed as the minister for youth and culture in the oil-rich Unity State.

Lam will be working as an advisor to the governor on youth matters.

Lam, who kicked off his music career in Kenya over 10 years ago, is also the chairman of South Sudan Artistes Association and the franchise owner of the Miss Malaika South Sudan beauty pageant.

Lam has lived in South Sudan’s capital Juba since 2006, after the peace agreement to end a 21-year civil war was signed in Kenya in 2005.

According to sources in Juba, Lam was appointed minister on Tuesday.

But it’s still not clear if he will relocate to Bentiu, capital of Unity State, or remain in Juba.
