Museveni tells Ugandans to take matters in their own hands to fight criminals

In the wake of the murder of a senior police officer, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has urged citizens to “challenge” armed thugs on the streets.

The statement, posted on the President Museveni’s Twitter account handle, has since elicited mixed reactions on social media with many questioning the logic of challenging unarmed criminals.

Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi died under a hail of bullets on Friday morning when he was ambushed by unknown assailants on boda bodas. The incident also left Kaweesi’s bodyguards and driver dead.

In an earlier tweet on his timeline, President Museveni had asked the security personal and citizens to be on the look out for thugs who have “made it a habit” of using motorcycles to kill people.
