By MAUREEN KAKAH November 23rd, 2018 1 min read

Fake doctor James Ndichu Mugo, alias Mugo wa Wairimu has been charged with unlawfully carrying out the business of a pharmacist and operating a medical laboratory without being registered among other charges.

He pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Martha Mutuku.

He faced two counts of unlawfully carrying out the business of a pharmacist yet he is not officially registered by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

JUMPING BAIL

Prosecution also accused him of operating Milan Health International limited without being registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.

The accused allegedly committed the said offenses in November this year in Nairobi’s Kayole estate.

The prosecution told the court that the accused should not be granted any bond terms because he has a proven history of jumping bail.

BACKLASH FROM WOMEN

However, his lawyer Kepha Ojijo argued that the charges he was facing warrants him to be released on bond like any other accused person.

Following his arrest this month, lawyer Cliff Ombeta who represented him in the first case, recused himself saying he feared backlash from women.

Court will rule on December 6 on whether to have him freed on bond. He therefore remains in detention until then.
