Mr Moneybags Babu Owino yet to pick running mate
University of Nairobi students’ union chairman Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has yet to identify a running mate in the upcoming students’ election as he seeks to defend his seat.
The students are warming up for the elections, with two rival camps proposing candidates for the running mate position.
The two camps, dubbed ‘BabuNjoki’ and ‘BabuGabby’, are in the race to win the hearts and minds of the majority to win nomination for the Vice Chairman post.
Speaking to Nairobi News, Babu said he is still serving the students as their chairman and will hit the ground running once the term of the current leaders end in March.
“I am concentrating with finishing my current term by serving the comrades then later I can kick off campaigns for another term,” said Babu.
BUDGET
The student leader has already drawn a Sh 15 million budget for the upcoming campaigns and hopes to traverse different campuses in pursuit of votes.
“I want the students to give me a running mate by virtue of who garners a majority of recommendations, then we can hit the ground running after the dissolution of parliament,” added Babu.
His budget for the 2014 was rumored to have been Sh4 million and he is now set to quadruple that amount.
Babu is famous for reviving the students union after it had been disbanded in 2010.
