Jubilee MP files petition to kick out Chief Justice Maraga
Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has filed a petition before the Judicial Service Commission seeking the removal of Chief Justice David Maraga.
Mr Wambugu, in a 14-page petition, accuses the CJ of gross misconduct.
He claims that the CJ has been held captive by a group of Non-Governmental Organisations who have been against Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency since 2013.
He alleges that Justice Maraga has allowed the said NGOs to be embedded in the Judiciary and have been funding a number of programmes, including technical support and training at the Judicial Training Institute.
He has also accused the CJ of preventing Justice Mohamed Ibrahim from participating in the hearing of the presidential petition filed by Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga.
Mr Justice Ibrahim fell sick on the second day of the hearing of the case. He did not participate in the judgment.
Mr Wambugu’s allegations come as Kenyans eagerly await the full judgment of the Supreme Court, which nullified the reelection of President Kenyatta.
The judges have nine days to deliver their verdict.
Justice Maraga, Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu, Justice Smokin Wanjala and Justice Isaac Lenaola nullified the August 8, presidential election citing irregularities and illegalities in the transmission of results.
Justices Njoki Ndungu and JB Ojwang dissented, giving the election a clean bill of health.
