MP, husband locked out of hotel for not having marriage certificate – VIDEO

Laikipia Woman Representative and her husband were on Saturday denied access to the Sunshine Hotel in Kericho town for failure to produce a marriage certificate.

Catherine Waruguru was with of her husband Wakili Kiget during the incident.

In a press conference in the same hotel, the MP said she felt she had been embarrassed as a leader.

“As a leader I feel that I have been embarrassed and kept here for more than an hour trying to seek the attention of the manager and no one has answered my question,” she said.

Attempts by the local MP to intervene on the matter bore no fruit.

Ms Waruguru had in 2017 bravely defended her polygamous marriage, saying she is comfortable being a second wife.

STRICT MEASURES

The owner of the hotel Mr James Mwangi had in 2014 instituted strict measures which include not serving alcohol to customers and non-admission of couples who do not have an original copy of their marriage certificate.

“Every couple has to produce a marriage certificate to book a room,” he told the Daily Nation in a past interview.

He added; “Some managers even threatened to quit, saying the rules denied the hotel more clients, but I stood my ground. I said I would rather lose them than cave in to spoil family morals that my dad warned me against.”

The hotel is one of the busiest in the area and has hosted among others President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and Nasa leader Raila Odinga.
