MP charged with squeezing genitals of governor’s aide


Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu was on Thursday morning arraigned in a Kitui court and charged with assaulting Kitui Governor Julius Malombe’s political advisor.

The legislator denied the two counts of criminal offence leveled against him and was released on sh100,000 bond plus a similar surety, with an option of sh50,000 cash bail.

Mr Mutambu, who was represented by lawyer Leornard Katunga Mbuvi, placed the sh50,000 cash bail.

In the first count, the MP was accused of, in conjunction with another not before the court, willingly and unlawfully assaulting Charles Kyale thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.

In the second count, Mr Mutambu was charged with intentionally touching and squeezing the complainant’s private parts against his will.

The court heard that the MP assaulted Mr Kyale at Tanathi Water Services boardroom in Kitui town on February 23.

Kitui Resident Magistrate Ms Rose Ombata ruled that the case be mentioned on November 23 to set the hearing date.
