Moving photo of President Bush’s dog paying tribute
A moving photo of the late President George H. W Bush’s service dog Sully guarding his casket has warmed hearts online.
Sully, who had been in the former President’s service since early this year, was assigned to him in his last days in a wheelchair.
President Bush’s spokesman Jim McGrath shared a photo of Sully and the casket captioning it, “Mission complete.”
Sully the dog will be travelling with the casket on the flight from Texas to Washington DC on Monday.
The coffin will be flown from Texas to DC on board Air Force One – temporarily renamed Special Air Mission 41, in homage to the late president – and then back on Wednesday, with Sully accompanying the body throughout.
Sully will after the mission be reassigned to assist wounded soldiers as he is highly trained with abilities to open doors and fetch items like phones when ringing.
The dog is named after the airline pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who landed a passenger jet on the Hudson River in 2009, saving all 155 passengers and crew on board.
