Mother and child burnt to death in Kayole inferno
A mother and her child were burnt to death after their house caught fire in Kayole, Nairobi.
Dorcas Wanjiru, 18, and her daughter Cecilia Muthoni were burnt beyond recognition, police said.
They were asleep in their house at Sowetto slums when the inferno started at around 8pm on Monday.
Eight other iron sheet houses were razed to the ground.
“Property of unknown value was destroyed. The remains were photographed and transported to City Mortuary awaiting postmortem. It was established that the fire was caused by a gas cylinder that exploded. The fire was put out by members of the public,” the police said in a report.
In another separate fire incident, 22 houses were reduced to ashes at Shauri Moyo.
