Morgue attendant denies theft

A mortuary attendant was on Thursday arraigned in court charged with stealing jewellery from the bodies of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nephew and that of his fiancée who were victims of the Westgate terror attack.

Ms Rose Victoria Oyungu, a 54-year-old widow, denied stealing a gold watch and a mobile phone from the body of Mbugua Mwangi, a nephew of the President at City Funeral Home on September 21.

According to the charge sheet, the watch and the phone were valued at Sh115,000.

The magistrate released her on Sh200,000 bail or an alternative bond of Sh300,000 and surety.

The case will be heard on November 25.
