Moi University journey at Enactus World Cup ends in the semis


Moi University was knocked out in the semifinals of The Enactus World Cup entrepreneurship competition after losing to teams from  Germany, China and The United States of America (USA) that took place in Toronto, Canada.

Moi University’s Enactus team’s flagship project focused on a mobile phone alert system that reminds nursing mothers to follow child immunization calendar.

Canada’s Memorial University of Newfoundland emerged world champions with their  mobile and retail ready hydroponic system.

The Germans showcased a tank fishing project while the USA team presented a mushroom farming from banana leaves innovation.

University students from all over the World showcased their entrepreneurial and community outreach projects.

The Enactus Moi University team also showcased Kenya’s Swahili culture during the World Cultural Experience Forum.

SWAHILI CULTURE

“We chose to showcase Swahili culture since Kiswahili language is the bedrock that unifies Kenya and the East African region,” said, Ms Salma Abdulatiff, the student team leader of Enactus Moi University.

“We congratulate Enactus Moi University for representing Kenya well at the World Cup. Enactus competitions offer undergraduate students to hone their skills in readiness for both employment and starting their own enterprises. Great plans are underway for the 2017 season,” said Florence Suji, Enactus Kenya Advisory Board Chair and Team Leader at Toyota Kenya Academy.

Enactus World Cup attracted over 1,000 business leaders from top companies in the world. The event featured other activities including; Action Leaders Forum, University Team Exhibitions among others.

The whole process was to provide an opportunity for collaboration, sharing of knowledge between business leaders, academia and universities and foster innovation as well as excellence in community leadership.

Enactus Kenya mission is to create a partnership between business and higher education and equip students with innovative ideas that attract investment through community projects, knowledge sharing and competitions.
