Miguna takes a swipe at Joho’s rags to riches tale
Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna has poked holes at Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s rags to riches narrative.
In series of fiery tweets, Mr Miguna said being born in a poor family is no excuse for poor academic performance. He cited examples of his schoolmates who overcame their deprived background to attain academic excellence.
Governor Joho had on Tuesday narrated how he rose from being the son of a peasant who got a D- score in KCSE to his current status.
“I take pride as a Kenyan for what I am today and I want to inspire other Kenyans who come from poor backgrounds. I cannot give up,” Mr Joho had told journalists.
But Mr Miguna could have none of it. He argued that poverty is not an excuse to perform poorly in academics, and that in the 90’s most top students in national schools were from poor backgrounds.
When I went to school, the best performing students came from economically poor backgrounds. Poverty has never hampered bright students.

Steve Jobs, @BillGates & @richardbranson dropped out of school to build, innovate, create & invent. They didn't FORGE their academic papers.

More than 65% of Kenya's hard working, bright and educated youth are unemployed because we have functionally illiterate people in power.
