Chaos disrupts Migori County Assembly Speaker’s election

Chaos erupted in Migori County Assembly chambers as a gang of youth stormed the hall and disrupted elections for the local Speaker.

Voting had reached the second round after none of the aspirant garnered the outright two thirds majority.

During  the commotion, nominated representative Ester Onana collapsed and was rushed to Migori County Referral Hospital for treatment.

It was not immediately clear whether the youth were sponsored or whether they were supporting any of the 10 candidates in the race.

But it could bring to question the nature of security accorded to a House which is meant debate and pass laws or endorse policies for Migori County.

During the first round, Mr Kerario Marwa got 25 votes while Boaz Okoth garnered 21. Enos Nyawata and Evans Achar each got one vote.

Former Awendo MP Jared Kopiyo had pulled out of the race before election began.
