Midiwo in hospital after collapsing on campaign trail

Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo is recuperating at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu after collapsing while on the campaign trail in Homa Bay County Tuesday night.

The MP was rushed to the hospital by his driver after he collapsed on his way to Kaluonyo MCA Peter Kaula’s home in Kendu Bay.

Mr Kaula said the legislator got disoriented at Kendu Bay on his way to the home.

“Some boda boda people saw him alight from a friend’s car and he appeared weak. They struggled to ferry him and Mr Midiwo lost Sh10, 000 in the melee, but the money could be more,” said Mr Kaula on phone, adding that the riders tried to break to the MP’s briefcase but did not manage.

“My personal assistant saw all that and intervened. That is when he was brought to my home. I called his driver and they took him to the hospital,” he added.

BLOOD PRESSURE

Aga Khan Hospital medical director Sam Oula said Mr Midiwo’s blood pressure had dropped and he had signs of fatigue.

“He is a known case of diabetes and his blood pressure was really low at the time he came in. He was admitted here at 10 pm and the doctors worked hard to stabilize him,” said Dr Oula.

He has since been moved from the Intensive Care Unit to the hospital’s private ward, he added.

Dr Oula said further tests will be done on the MP to ensure that his heart is stable.

Relatives of the MP have began streaming to the hospital to visit him.

“I was with him most of last night when he was brought in and we are happy that the doctors now say he is stable,” said Kisumu Deputy Ruth Odinga
