5 suspected Gaza members killed in gun battle with police


Five members of the outlawed Gaza gang were killed on Saturday morning in a deadly gun battle with police officers who had raided their hideout in Tala town.

Four gang members were felled by police bullets while another one shot himself to death after being cornered by members of the public while trying to escape.

According to police reports, a combined team of officers from Flying Squad and Special Crime Unit under the command of CI Godhard Mburu trailed the suspects from Kayole to their hide out in Kathaana around 6am.

Officers stormed the house where the suspected were holed up and a shootout ensued leading to the death of two of the suspects only identified as Mueithi Timothy and Muchiri.

SHOT HIMSELF

One suspect managed to escaped with a Ceska pistol belonging to an officer who was shot on the left leg and scalded by water during the shootout.

Members of the public however gave chase and cornered the fleeing suspect who opted to shoot himself on the head.

At the same, other members of the same gang engaged officers in a fierce shootout after police were tipped of their presence by members of the public at Mwonyeni market about 3 kilometres from Kathiani Police Station.

Two suspects, identified as Teddy and Samuel alias Mzito, were gunned. A teacher by the name Shadarak Cheruiyot was also caught in the crossfire.

Officers recovered one Jericho pistol serial No. KP453023342 loaded with four rounds of 9mm ammunition, one homemade gun capable of firing and a mobile phone.

The injured officer has been treated and discharged from Ruai Family Hospital in Tala while bodies of the slain suspects were moved to Kangundo Level Four Hospital.
