Media couple Rashid Abdalla, Lulu Hassan produce new Swahili show

Media couple Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla have produced a continuation of the Maza soap opera that premiered on Monday on Maisha Magic East.

The show, produced in Mombasa, depicts the intrigues and drama of a once successful family whose strong bond is crushed one night by an envious friend.

Maza is Swahili slang word for ‘mama’.

MAIN CHARACTERS

The show features five main characters Dingo (husband), Lea (Wife), Maya (Daughter), Badi (Son) and Kate (Best friend to wife) and supporting characters.

Speaking to Nairobi News, Rashid Abdalla said the show sets out to teach the audience about the culture, traditions and lifestyle of the coastal people.

The Maza soap opera had once stalled before the media couple revived it.

Rashid Abdalla recalls how he was once in Kilifi when saw the actress who played the role of Lea.

“I followed for like 30 minutes and in between she disappeared and I had no idea where she went,” he told Nairobi News.

NOT YET EXPOSED

“I went back home and told my wife about my experience and she told me there was something about her which was hidden and it had not yet been exposed,” Mr Abdala said.

He subsequently contacted the show’s script writer Ibrahim Chitai, and after talks, agreed to revive Maza on condition that they will do it together.

The show flashes back 10 years ago when Lea, Dingo’s wife, mysteriously disappears and never to be found or heard again. After years of an emotional roller-coaster, Dingo and his two kids Maya and Badi must find closure.

At the launch of the show in Mombasa, Head of Channel for Maisha Magic East Margaret Mathore demonstrates Maisha Magic East’s commitment to provide premium local content for viewers on both DStv and GOtv.
