MCA pass motion to allow City Askaris to take you to court

April 12th, 2019 1 min read

Nairobi MCAs have passed a motion requiring City Hall to come up with a policy that will empower county inspectorate officers to arrest and arraign offenders in court.

The MCAs said the executive must establish an inspectorate training college equipped with modern facilities to enhance public services.

Imara Daima MCA Kennedy Obuya, who moved the motion, said the college will provide paralegal, anti-terrorism, disarmament, compliance and enforcement training, with the mandate to develop guidelines on the curriculum, examination and certification of inspectorate trainees to be executed by the County Public Service Board.

He said the Inspectorate Department has more than 400 officers, whose primary duty is to enforce county laws and regulations that it undertakes in key areas such as markets and licensing.

The current Inspectorate Training College in Dagoretti lacks modern training facilities, a clear administrative structure and a modern curriculum.

“It is wrong for us, as members, to point fingers without giving solutions. We need to restructure the city county’s Inspectorate team.” Mr Obuya said.
