Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has warned chiefs and leaders who mediate to help rapists evade arrest that they will be sacked and arrested immediately.

The CS issued the warning in Wajir where he had attended a security meeting following incidents of killing of teachers, rape and conflicts arising from boundaries.

GANG-RAPED BY 3 MEN

Dr matiang’is warning comes as police investigate a case where a 15-year-old girl was gang-raped by three men earlier this month in Habaswein, Wajir County.

Habaswein OCPD Caleb Wesa said the girl was first gang-raped raped by two men on February 18 before being handed her over to another attacker the next day.

The perpetrators fled leaving the victim in critical condition.

The victim is a Form One student at Ogle girls secondary school in Habaswein.

An attempt by elders to initiate an alternative dispute resolution system (maslaha) drew criticism from the residents who have called on the authorities to ensure the rapists get harsh punishment.

Rape is a serious crime in Kenya that can attracts a life sentence.
