Mathare up next for Gor Mahia

July 10th, 2015 2 min read

Defending champions Gor Mahia face Mathare United on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium in their final match before leaving for Dar es Salaam where they will take in the Cecafa Club Championships.

The 14-time champions are currently unbeaten in 17 league matches this season and enjoy a 12-point lead at the helm of the Kenyan Premier League table.

Regardless, coach Frank Nuttall has continued to play the modesty card regarding his team’s fine form only saying that he is counting on the boys to deliver the same performance in every match.

“It is good that we are still unbeaten in the league. The huge advantage that we hold is very important but it is too early to talk about winning the title,” Nuttall said.

In their last league match on Wednesday, K’Ogalo beat Thika United 2-0.

The league’s leading scorer, Michael Olunga, who was on target against Thika, will be expected to lead the attack against Mathare alongside Meddie Kagere with whom he has formed a formidable partnership.

TITLE AMBITIONS

On Saturday, AFC Leopards will take on Ushuru at City Stadium hoping to repeat their midweek success against KCB.

Former Sofapaka forward Patrick “Petit” Kagogo, who came from the bench to score a stunning free kick in injury time for Leopards’ 2-1 win, could make the starting lineup, while Lucas Indeche will retain his position between the sticks.

The taxmen, who fell to a 1-0 loss to Bandari midweek in Mombasa, will be hungry for victory.

At Nyayo, 10-time champions Tusker will take on Chemelil Sugar hoping for better luck in their title ambitions.

The brewers will be hoping to return to winning ways following their 1-1 draw with Ulinzi Stars in their last outing.

Other matches will see Ulinzi Stars play against Nairobi City Stars at Ruaraka, while Sony Sugar will welcome Bandari in Awendo.
