Matano slams Ulinzi players after City Stars draw
Ulinzi Stars Coach Robert Matano was left infuriated after his team was held to a one-all home draw against Nairobi City Stars in a Kenyan Premier League match at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru on Saturday.
A furious Matano said that they never deserved even a point from the game after putting up what he termed as a “poor performance”.
The coach is now demanding a response from his players when the soldiers face Mathare United on Wednesday at the same venue.
“This is the worst performance we have had this season and I am very disappointed with how we played. We didn’t even deserved a point from this match because we were not serious. Our approach to the game very casually,” Matano said.
SCORING OPPORTUNITIES
“We wasted some very easy scoring opportunities and we cannot afford to do those kind of things in the top flight,” he added.
His opposite number Paul Nkata was however happy with the point, saying that his team could have beaten the soldiers had the pitch been in a better condition.
“They should really thank God it rained because today we were going to finish them completely. The game plan we had could not work on the soggy pitch,” Nkata said.
Ulinzi would have moved to second spot and reduced the gap between them and leaders Gor Mahia to just six points had they won the match.
“We are still in the title race. There are three games left before the first leg ends and we cannot give up now, but we must improve because the league is very competitive,” he said.
