Finally, Masoud Juma comes good for Harambee Stars

By DAVID KWALIMWA September 1st, 2017 1 min read

Masoud Juma scored his first goal in national team colours as Kenya played out a one-all draw against Mauritania in Morocco on Thursday night.

The Kariobangi Sharks forward, short stay in the national team has been shrouded in controversy, scored via a header just before the hour mark, to hand Harambee Stars a deserved lead.

Mauritania drew level in the 83rd minute.

Juma made his international debut for Harambee Stars during the 2019 Africa Nations Cup qualifier away to Sierra Leone in June.

He however faced constant criticism from a section of the team’s fans following his showing in that game, and particularly after he missed a sitter in the opening half, in a contest Kenya eventually lost 2-1.

UNSUCCESSFUL TRIALS

Since that game, the player’s efforts to secure a professional move abroad have been thwarted, after unsuccessful trials in Sweden and South Africa.

The lanky forward will now be hoping this goal is the first of many, as he trains his sights in leading Kenya’s attack at the African Nations Championships (Chan) early next year.

Meanwhile, the contest against Mauritania saw Kenya exclusively field local based players as a build up for the 2018 continental tournament to be held in the country starting January.

The Musa Otieno coached team will next play hosts Morocco on September 4, 2017 in another build up.
