Gitobu Imanyara’s house to be auctioned off next week

October 13th, 2015 1 min read

Politician Martha Karua’s lawyer Gitobu Imanyara is a troubled man after his Karen home was put up for public auction next week.

The city lawyer and Former Imenti Central MP, renowed for his role in the campaign for multiparty democracy in the 90’s, will have his home auctioned by Valley Auctioneers on Wednesday next week.

In a notice published in the dailies, the auctioneers stated that the auction will take place at its offices located in Agip House along Haile Sellasie Avenue in room 304.

“The property is situated off Kufuga Road, in Karen, approximately 13 kilometers from the city centre and registered in the name of Gitobu Imanyara,” read the notice in part.

PALATIAL HOME

The four bedroom maisonette includes a detached servant quarter and a gate house.

Mr Imanyara’s palatial home sits on approximately half an acre.

The lawyer moved to court on June 26, 2014 seeking a temporary injunction barring Ecobank Kenya from selling, charging, mortgaging, leasing, taking into possession or in any way interfering with his plot until the case is heard and determined.

He claimed that the bank had threatened to auction his property unlawfully and against an earlier agreement.

He told the court that he had entered into an agreement with the bank in September 2009 for the advancement of a loan and the land was supposed to act as security.

CONTRACTOR

The loan was to build a house on the land for which the building contractor was to be paid directly by the bank after being issued with certificates of work completed.

Lawyer Imanyara is representing Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua in a defamation suit against Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

This was after Mr Kuria had made statements linking Ms Karua to a plot to fix Deputy President William Ruto in the International Criminal Court.
