Mariga extends contract with Italian side US Latina

Kenyan international midfielder McDonald Mariga says he is pleased to extend his stay at Italian club US Latina Calcio.

Mariga agreed a deal to extend his six month stay at the second division club by another year on Wednesday night.

The development was formally announced on the club’s official portal and social media pages on Thursday.

“The US Latina Calcio announces it has reached an agreement with Mariga who will  now remain with the club until June 30, 2017,”  the message read in part.

FIVE-MATCH SUSPENSION

Mariga who is considered one of the most successful players of his generation to emerge from East Africa said:

“It is true I will remain with Latino, they have taken care of me well especially when I had challenges. Besides, there is ambition here and I want to impact my experience and see the team promoted to the first division.”

The “challenges” the former Inter Milan and Parma FC player is referring to include a five match suspension slapped on him for injuring a match official during a league tie last April.

Latina later publicly supported the player through a statement, and went on to lodge an unsuccessful appeal.

This is Mariga’s tenth consecutive season in Italy. He is expected to play a vital role for the club for which he scored twice in 13 league appearances last season.
