Man commits suicide after his candidate loses election

A 51-year-old man committed suicide on Monday morning in Leshau trading centre, Nyandarua County after his preferred candidate lost in last week’s election.

Nyandarua North Officer Commanding Police Division, Timon Odingo, said that David Mugambi Mathenge left behind a suicide note explaining he decided to take his own life after Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu lost in the election.

“Sababu ya kushua mwili wangu ni sababu ya Joshua Irungu Kushindwa,” read the suicide note.

The police boss said that residents found the body of the man, who was a tout in Nyahururu town, hanging from the ceiling of his house.

Mr Irungu was defeated by Ndiritu Muriithi who was vying as an independent candidate.
