Man, who stabbed fiancée 16 times in her private parts, found guilty of murder

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has urged the High Court to hand down the mandatory death sentence to a man who brutally murdered his fiancée by stabbing her 16 times in her private parts for refusing to have sex with him.

State prosecutor Charles Okeyo urged Lady Justice Roselyn Korir not to have leniency to James Mulu Mulewa for ending the life of Mercy Muthethya Ngali without provocation.

Okeyo asked the judge to hand down the mandatory death sentence to serve as a warning to men who do not respect women.

ATTEMPTED RAPE

The prosecutor recounted the tragic incident of February 27, 2012 when Mr Mulu followed his fiancée from the bus stop to her mother’s house where he attempted to rape her when she declined his sexual advances.

The court heard how after Mr Mulu tore his fiancée’s underpants in an attempt to have forced sex with her, the accused pulled a knife from his pocket and assaulted the woman.

BRUTAL MURDER

“Mr Mulu viciously attacked the defenseless woman whom he had laid on her mother’s bed. Mulu assaulted his would-be-wife by stabbing her six times in her private parts, six times in her lower abdomen, one time in her liver, twice in her thighs and once in her buttocks,” Judge Korir said.

While convicting him, the judge said the accused committed a heinous act of pouring anger on an innocent girl who lost her precious life at a tender age.

In his mitigation, Mulu pleaded for leniency saying he had reformed and has even undertaken theological studies. The court will visit the murder scene before handing down a sentence on December 5.
