Man shot dead in Ruai robbery

A man was shot dead while his wife and house help are fighting for their lives after they were shot in their house in Ruai on Monday night. Another suspect was also shot and seriously injured in the same incident in unclear circumstances.

Police spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki said that the deceased, Mr Alex Kiambati, was entering his residence when he was confronted two men armed with pistols.

According to a businessman, Julius Gathuka, the deceased had bought some gas cylinder but could not fix it when he went to the house. He returned the gas cylinder to Ruai shopping centre in the company of Mr Gathuka.

His son opened the gate for him and they were immediately confronted by the two men armed with Ceska pistols.

The gangsters robbed Mr Gathuka of Sh20, 000 but when Mr Kiambati attempted to switch on the alarm, he was shot three times.

CRITICAL CONDITION

The gunmen also shot Mr Kiambati’s wife, Ms Josephine Lelei Kiambati on the shoulder. Their house help identified as Maureen Mutinda 18, was also shot on the right leg.

Also shot in unclear circumstances is one of the suspects identified as Julius Musee Nthiwa 42, who police say is in a critical condition.

Ms Mboroki also said that the attackers also stole the family’s car. Police visited the scene and recovered three spent cartridges of 9mm caliber. The victim’s body was taken to Kenyatta University mortuary while the injured are admitted at a city hospital.

The police spokesperson also said that another man was attacked in his residence in Ongata Rongai by armed men who shot at his car. He was however not injured. Three men armed with pistols had raided the house of Mr Benjamin Koyier, an employee of Toyota Kenya when he was away.

They stole laptops, bank ATM cards and other household goods but when they were leaving, they met the owner at the gate. They shot at him two times hitting the driver’s door and the car’s bonnet. “He was not injured at all. Officers also recovered a spent cartridge at the scene,” she said
