Man in car theft syndicate says he is a shylock

A man suspected to be the centre of a car theft syndicate in Umoja estate has told police that he is a Shylock and that eight cars found in his compound were securities for loan.

Police say the eight cars are suspected to have been stolen.

The man, George Kareithi Wambua, said the eight cars were given to him by their owners as securities for loans he gave them.

The cars were found in his compound in Umoja III Estate on Sunday following a report by one of  his neighbors who suspected that a friend’s car had been stolen.

“The man had called us to inform us that he had called a friend who told him that his car had been stolen in September last year in Ruai,” Buruburu OCPD Richard Kerich said.

Early Monday morning, Mr Kerich questioned the suspect and asked him to produce all the documents showing the legitimacy of his business.

The eight vehicles are still held at the Buruburu police station as police investigate the allegations of the Ruai resident that his car had been stolen.

Mr Kerich has requested members of the public who may have information that could help in the investigations to contact the police.
