City man in court for hitting wife who failed to serve him like a king

A 47-year-old man who hit and broke his wife’s ribs because she failed to serve him dinner like a king has been charged in court.

Kennedy Ochieng Oyoo appeared before Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga at a Makadara court on Thursday where he was charged with the offence of causing grievous harm to his wife, Caroline Wangui, last month.

Mr Oyoo, however, pleaded not guilty and was directed to pay a cash bail of Sh 60,000 or get a surety of Sh150,000 to secure his release pending the trial.

GRIEVOUS BODY HARM

“On May 30, within Kasarani area in Nairobi, the accused caused grievous body harm to one Ms Wangui,” the court heard.

On the fateful day, the accused allegedly accompanied the complainant, a clothes seller, to the city to get stock for her business.

The two, however, had to return home empty-handed after waiting in vain for five hours for the person who was to sell them clothes at a fair price.

According to the prosecution, Mr Oyoo withdrew some money as soon as they got to Kasarani before they both went to a pub together.

But Ms Wangui allegedly left her husband to go and prepare their meal and that of their child.

LIKE A KING

No sooner had she settled to do her chores than her husband followed her and allegedly started scolding her for failing to treat him like a king while serving him dinner.

An argument ensued that saw the accused hit Ms Wangui. He is accused of causing her severe injuries, before their neighbours came to the woman’s rescue. The husband fled the scene immediately.

She was rushed to hospital writhing in pain and then later reported the matter to the police.

But the police, however, caught up with him and arraigned in court.

The case will heard on October 15.
