Man charged with attempting to rape grandmother

A middle-aged man was arraigned before a Kiambu court Tuesday, charged with attempting to rape his grandmother in Banana Township, a fortnight ago.

Michael Karanja Wairimu appeared before Kiambu senior Principal magistrate Stella Atambo charged that on October 10, 2019, he intentionally and unlawfully attempted to sexually assault the complainant contrary to the Sexual Offences Act of 2006.

He faced and alternative count of indecent assault to the effect that on the same day and place, he touched the private parts of the complainant.

He pleaded not guilty to the two counts and his case will be heard on January 3, 2020. He was released on a Sh100, 000 bond with a surety of similar amount pending the hearing.

Senior state counsel Donnex Ongira said he had lined up five witnesses to buttress the case.

In the same court, Bernard Mungai was charged with defiling an 11-year-old minor on October 20th at Gachie estate.

He faced an alternative count of committing an indecent act with a minor, whereby he was accused of unlawfully touching her private parts.

He pleaded not guilty to both counts and the magistrate released him on Sh200,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount pending the hearing.

The case will be heard on January 6, 2020 with mentioning on November 5, 2019.

Ongira, appearing for the prosecution told the court that he has lined up six witnesses to prove his case.
