Man charged with attempting to defile a sheep

A man charged with an attempted defilement of a sheep has pleaded not guilty when arraigned before a Kericho court on Tuesday.

Morgan Kipkorir Koech, 20, was arraigned before Kericho acting Senior Resident Magistrate Lilian Kiniale.

He is charged that on January 30 at about 3.30 pm at Kipsolu sub-location, Kericho County, he attempted to have carnal knowledge with a sheep.

Evidence documented by the prosecution revealed that on the material day, Jennifer Koech, a neighbour of the accused, saw him mounting the sheep whose legs were tied.

STILL ON TOP

Jennifer immediately went to inform the animal’s owner, together with his son, and they all rushed to the scene where they found the accused still on top of the sheep.

The accused attempted to flee on seeing the three, but was overpowered by the owner of the sheep who tied him with a rope on a tree near the scene of crime before informing the area chief.

The area chief, on arrival, escorted the accused to Sosiot police station where he was put into custody.

The sheep was taken to Kericho regional veterinary laboratory to ascertain the attempted defilement.

The accused was released on a bond of Sh20,000 or a cash bail of Sh20,000 which he failed to raise and was whisked to remand jail until February 16 when the case will be mentioned and a hearing date fixed.

The court ordered the accused be supplied with copies of witness statements and the charge sheet before the mention date of his case.
