Mama Ngina Kenyatta recounts her pain during Uhuru’s ICC trial

Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta was at pains to explain how torn apart she was during the entire period within which her son President Uhuru Kenyatta was attending to his case at the International Criminal Court (ICC)case at the Hague.

This was revealed through her confession during a family thanksgiving service at St Gabriels Catholic mission church un Mutomo-Gatundu south last Sunday.

“I used to cry myself to sleep wondering how he (President Uhuru) would be jailed but God delivered him. For that I am grateful,” she told the congregation.

She described her son’s prosecution at the Hague case as one of the hardest moments for her since her son (the president) was elected president in 2013 and thanked God for the termination of the case and Kenyans for their prayers.

GOOD HEALTH

“God has been working wonders and leading the country despite the heavy challenges we’ve gone through,”

“I have been praying for our nation and it is by God’s strength that we have come thus far,” she said.

Mama Ngina expressed hope that next year, the country shall go through the elections peacefully.

Amongst other challenges that the former First Lady was thankful were good health, she had been unable to walk for five months while nursing a broken knee.

She also recalled a time when she was prevented from entering State House at the gate while attending a function as well as being snubbed by a Lands Minister while fighting to have some women retain a land donated to them by Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

GRATEFUL TO GOD

“I have experienced so much to an extent that I’m no longer shaken by issues that crop up now and then. I have also gone through several operations successfully,”

She finished by calling on the Kenyan youths to register as voters in numbers.

The thanksgiving service was also attended by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, daughter Ngina Kenyatta, son Jomo and his newlywed wife Achola, Uhuru’s sisters, relatives, friends and local politicians.

Uhuru said he was grateful to God for keeping his mother strong through all the challenges she has been through.

He also thanked Kenyans for praying for the family and asked that they spread love at the family level to ensure cohesion at the national level.
