Magufuli tickles Uhuru’s ribs with Dholuo speech

Tanzanian President John Magufuli surprised President Uhuru Kenyatta during the 17th Ordinary East African Community (EAC) Summit by addressing him Dholuo.

While inquiring about Kenya from President Kenyatta in a lighthearted manner, President Magufuli said:

“Oyawre, wachane mar dala mantie machiegni,” Which translates to, “Good morning. Tell me what’s going on in the neighbouring land.”

Magufuli also had a surprise for the other heads of state during the 17th Ordinary East African Community (EAC) Summit held in Arusha when he spoke Kinyarwanda and Baganda, languages which are not spoken in Tanzania.

The video of Magufuli making the brief speech in Dholuo has since generated a huge buzz on social media.

One of the resolutions that the regional leaders agreed on during the meeting was to admit the Republic of South Sudan into the East African Community.

The East Africa e-passport, which is expected to enhance commerce across the region, was launched during the summit.
