University of Nairobi student killed by his lover

A teenager has been arrested after she allegedly stabbed her University of Nairobi boyfriend to death.

The 19-year-old is being held at the Dagoretti Police Station after she stabbed the 25-year-old man in the neck at around 3.30am, Wednesday.

Nairobi County Police Commander Japhet Koome said the landlord called the police, informing them that the couple had a fight and that the deceased was lying in a pool of blood at the door step.

“When the police arrived, they found the man already dead and the woman sitting next to the body of the deceased,” Mr Koome said.

The body of the third year student has been taken to the Chiromo Mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

Police are conducting investigations before they can arraign the woman in court on Friday.

Police say it is not yet clear what led to the woman to picking a kitchen knife and stabbing her boyfriend with whom they had lived together for close to six months.

Incidents of couples fatally stabbing one another have been on the rise in Kenya.

Last month, another woman stabbed her boyfriend to death in Huruma over a remote control of a television set. The couple had been watching the TV together before they started arguing over the channel they should watch.

Earlier, a man had killed his girlfriend at the Nyayo Estate in Embakasi and left the decomposing body in his house. It was found four days later after neighbours noticed a strong stench emanating from the house.
