Looking for an adventure in Japan? Try the trains
Early last week, the national women volleyball team experienced an enjoyable 300km train trip between the two Japanese cities of Okayama and Nagoya.
Other than the luxury and comfort of the two-hour journey, it was a eye-opening experience of just how efficient rail transport system is in Japan.
From the bullet train – nicknamed as such because of its lightening speed – to other slower trains, rail transport in this Asian country is remarkably smooth, with little chance of delay.
Its no wonder that for their effectiveness and reliability, trains are the preferred mode of public transport for many citizens here who often have to make seat reservations in advance.
Crucially, rail transport is cheaper here compared to road and air transport. This mode also pollutes the air least compared to the other.
“We should learn from such success stories and try emulate them at home,” is how Kenya’s team manager Kenneth Tonui summed up the experience.
